Prepare for Extreme Heat

Over the next several days, California is facing an excessive heat wave with parts of the state reaching record breaking temperatures. Older adults, children under four, people with existing medical conditions, and those without access to air conditioning are the most at risk to extreme heat and heat-related illnesses. To prepare for this heat wave, I am sharing with you a list of trusted resources to keep you and your loved ones safe, healthy, and cool during this time. Help spread the word and share these resources with your family, friends, and communities.

Irvine • Lakeview Senior Center

Manage the day-to-day duties of the Age Well lunch program at Lakeview Senior Center. We’re looking for a team member with great interpersonal skills, office skills, confidence and comfortable around people, and excellent time management capabilities. If you are looking for a fulfilling position with a lot of team spirit and interaction, we encourage you to apply. Lake Forest • Driving South Orange County

Clean driving record is a must! Our drivers provide door-to-door transportation services to seniors or individuals with special needs in South Orange County. You will be responsible for providing safe procedural handling of older adults, keeping regularly scheduled pick-up times, and keep the assigned vehicle clean and fueled. COVID protocol and safety guidelines must be followed at all times.

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Age Well Senior Services. It is expected that our employees demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values of Age Well Senior Services. We expect our employees to work effectively, patiently and positively with our seniors, co-workers and others by being courteous, conscientious, and kind-spirited. Drivers must obey all safety and driving regulations, practice good communication with the Supervisor, and use solution-oriented methods when addressing problems.

Lake Forest • Age Well Corporate Office

Do you have experience in a nonprofit as a volunteer coordinator or experience in a management capacity? If so, this is the role for you. You will be integral in building and developing a recruitment program and management of individual and corporate/group volunteers using multi-channels of communication. You will establish training perimeters, ensure compliances are met, encourage positive experiences of volunteers, plan our annual volunteer acknowledgment event, and follow up on volunteers’ experiences. We’re looking for a mature applicant who works well with staff and others outside our organization and will present a positive image of our company. As a personable, sincere, and compassionate individual, you must possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. The goal is to ensure that our organization is always staffed with the best and most reliable individuals and that they are correctly utilized to fulfill of our mission. Irvine • Lakeview Senior Center

Seeking a part-time Senior Lunch Program Coordinator Assistant in Irvine. We train. This is a fill-in position that covers the Nutrition Program Manager at the Age Well Senior Center locations as needed to cover staff vacations. The coordinator is trained in all operations and will fill in with Meals-on-Wheels and or senior lunches. A flexible position that makes a direct impact in the lives of your senior neighbors. San Clemente • Dorothy Visser Senior Center

This position requires Bilingual,-Spanish speaking, reading and writing proficiency. Age Well Care Management team provides care to South Orange County adults over the age of 60 who need assistance and direction in their abilities to live independently at home in a safe environment. This position requires Bilingual-Spanish: speaking, reading, and writing. This position also requires driving to clients’ houses for home visits (mileage reimbursement is included). To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential duty satisfactorily, communicating effectively with coworkers, clients, families, management and others, and deal efficiently and professionally under pressure. New Year. New Look. Same Age Well.
We’re excited to unveil to you our new logo, tagline and a new website as part of an extensive rebranding initiative! Over the past several months, we’ve been working hard to update our brand to better reflect our values, services, and the evolution of our organizations mission since its founding in 1975.
As of today, Age Well Senior Services is now officially Age Well, Orange County’s partner in aging. We look forward to continuing to support Orange County seniors with our new name and look. Over the next few months, you’ll start to see us updating our branding across all our services and programs.

Florence Sylvester Newsletter

The amazing team at Florence Sylvester Senior Center has been working tirelessly to reopen. We have a newly painted interior and some other beautiful upgrades at the center. We are thrilled to be bringing back our Congregate Lunch program on December 1st and our Grab and Go table that has served us well over the last 15 months, will be retired. Please call ahead a minimum of 3 days before you would like to dine with us to reserve your spot. You are welcome to make reservations up to one month early. Menus are available at the front desk and in this newsletter

Additionally, Tai Chi and Qi-Gong and Balance classes will be held in-person in December. The highly requested Dr. Trinh, of Memorial Care, will be resuming his health lecture series in December. Becky Lomaka will be conducting a workshop on positive strategies on dealing with grief over the holidays. Our friends at Regal Medical Group are sponsoring an “Ask the Doc” event. Please check out the calendar for dates and times and call the center to re-serve a seat.

As we look into the New Year and plan for a return to normalcy, we have many fun activities on the horizon. This is the perfect time to register for Emeritus Institute classes that we will be hosting with our partners Saddleback and Irvine Valley Colleges. We will also be offering an 8-week meditation workshop with Dr. Ryan Seay.

Senior Center Lunch program is back starting December 1, 2021. Having been converted to a grab-and-go program since March 2020, we are reopening for in-person lunch. Dr. Marilyn Ditty

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend, colleague and founder of Age Well Senior Services, Inc., Dr. Marilyn Ditty. Dr. Ditty made an indelible mark on who we are today as an organization, and we vow to continue her legacy of serving and enriching the lives of seniors in our community while providing outstanding stewardship to benefit the cause of the organization she created. Another hallmark of her leadership was to build great and deep guiding principles. These will remain in place, as our vision to build services for older adults in continues.

On October 31, 2021, Dr. Marilyn Ditty, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Teacher and Friend passed away peacefully at the age of 81. Marilyn was an amazing woman who has made an impact on countless lives. In the late 1970’s Marilyn received her master’s degree from the University of San Diego when the aging field was in its pioneering stage and then pursued post- graduate studies at the University of Southern California, School of Gerontology. She then continued her journey of education by receiving her Doctorate in Public Administration from the University of La Verne. She went on to serve on various advisory boards and as an associate professor.

Marilyn is extensively known for her distinguished work in the field of gerontology and dedicated her career to educate and advocate for older adults on the local, state, federal and international level. Most importantly, was the founder emeritus of Age Well Senior Services, Inc. and served as its CEO for over 40 years. Her work paved the way for Senior Services in Orange County, CA. as her devotion to improve the welfare of older adults established community- based care for the aging community. Among her many accolades, she received the coveted SAGE Award (Senior Achievement and General Excellence) from the Senior Housing Council and honored at a nationwide tribute to caregivers by Marriot Senior Living Services. She is best known for establishing an excellent model for community-based care for seniors which has served over 85,000 older adults in Orange County.

Marilyn was the most determined, passionate, generous and visionary woman many of us will ever know. She taught us respect, courage, commitment and perseverance. Each person she touched now carries her great influence and inspiration, and all that knew Dr. Ditty will miss her dearly. She will always be loved and appreciated by all. Our prayers and thoughts are with the Ditty family.

The Ditty family will be honoring Dr. Marilyn Ditty and holding a Celebration of Life in her memory during the 2022 year.
